Laboratory The EDL is housed in Room 1124, building Engineering III. The laboratory is home to an array of field and laboratory equipment to support studies of mixing and transport processes in a vast range of environments. The laboratory is used to test and service instruments, prepare instrument arrays and packages for field deployments, and to download and analyze data. Room 1122, next door to the EDL, is the calibration and clean room facility. This is used to calibrate thermistors immediately prior to and subsequent to deployment. The accuracy of calibration is better than 0.003 deg C. A computer controlled calibration bath allows for the calibration of up to 6 thermistors over the range 2-32 deg C in a period of 3 hours. The calibration room also houses an Agilent ICP-MS. A fluid mechanics laboratory is housed in 1114 Engineering Unit III.
Experimental facilities presently include an insulated tank for natural
convection experiments and a 40 ft tilting flume (presently under repair). Equipment |
